How to Search by Name on Dating Personals

Every day, someone is wondering how to find a person by name on a dating personals website. Many times, people would like to find out if a significant other has created a profile there. Other times, a person is looking for an ex or someone he has a crush on and knows to be single.

Locating someone by name on a dating personals website can be challenging, but not impossible. Since many people use their names, in whole or in part, on in their profiles, implementing specific and strategic searches can result in finding the person.

Instructions

    1

Write a list of all of the names the person you are looking for goes by. This should include: first name, first and last name combinations, and possible nicknames. This list will help organize an effective search strategy.

    2

Visit a free yet popular dating personals website, such as Plenty of Fish, which gets more than 175 million page views a month. Go to the "Search" option, then select "Username Search." Enter the names on your list from Step 1. Start with the first name. If those results still don't net you what you are looking for, continue going through the list until out of options.

    3

Search a popular paid dating personals site like Match.com. Log in or create a username if you don't have a current login. Please note that you do not need a paid subscription to log in or create a username and password to perform a search.

Go to the "Search" option at the top of the page and select "Go Search." Do a "Keyword" search based on Step 1.

Narrow your search by adjusting the "located" field to the location of the person you are looking for. Also add the amount of miles in which you would like to contain your search. In the "I am" field, adjust as appropriate, i.e., "I am a man looking for a woman."

    4

Select "Search" and "Go Search" again, then select "Username Search" on Match.com -- if you know the username of the person you are looking for. This username could be the same one used in an instant messenger program, Skype application or the first part of an email address. Match.com will not display variations, so your username guess will have to be an exact match.
