WebWatcher Tips

WebWatcher is a piece of computer software that parents, schools and corporations can use to keep track of how the Internet is being used within their network. WebWatcher can log all keystrokes, give administrators access to e-mail and instant-messaging sessions, as well as give a complete list of Web sites visited by each user. Further, it can be used to filter access to any adult or inappropriate content.

Manage Your Network Online

WebWatcher has a feature called ViewPoint, which allows administrators to access the WebWatcher interface from any computer over the Internet. ViewPoint allows the user to change settings, view the data received from any of the computers on the target network and even set filters to pick up any "warning" words so you do not have to sift through all the data by yourself. The software will pick out words or word combinations that are suspicious and will notify you through the ViewPoint feature.

To access the ViewPoint feature, all you have to do is navigate to www.webwatcherdata.com from any computer with an Internet connection and enter your username and password (which you choose when you purchase the software).

Keystroke Logging

If you are concerned that your child may be involved with something that may be harmful to him or others, or perhaps you want to be sure your employees are using the company computer for work purposes only, you can use a feature within WebWatcher called Key Logger. The keystroke logger will keep track of every word that is typed on that machine regardless of whether or not the computer is connected to the Internet.

To turn on the keystroke logging feature in WebWatcher, simply select the "Keystrokes" button in the left-hand navigation area and choose the computer you want to log. In this area you can also set the notification frequency, so you can be sent the logs at any given interval.

Content Filtering

WebWatcher also allows parents and employers to block certain kinds of content. Parents might wish to block any offensive, inappropriate or adult content, so their children cannot access that material. It also provides a safety net from exposure to this content, because even pop-up ads and offensive spyware-related material will be blocked. Employers may use this feature to block any Web site that is not work-related or that can distract and employee from doing his job.

There are several ways to use the filtering feature. Under the "Settings" tab in the left-hand navigation area, choose the "Filter" option. Here, you can block individual Web sites, keywords that appear on Web sites, or use one of WebWatcher's all-encompassing settings that will block any offensive material within that category (adult, gambling, etc.).
