How to Embed a Google Gadget

Google gadgets are free, interactive web applications that provide entertainment and useful functionality. Google makes some of these gadgets; Internet users also create their own and and share them on Google's gadget site. You can customize a gadget and add it to your iGoogle page or copy the gadget's HTML code and add it to your web page. The gadgets are free and there are thousands to choose from in multiple categories (See Resources.)

Instructions

    Visit the Google gadget site. There you will see a list of gadget categories on the left side of the screen. The categories include News, Technology and Fun & Games.

    Click a category to view thumbnails of the gadgets in that category.

    Scroll through the list of gadgets and double-click one that you like. Google will open a new page displaying information about the gadget.

    Click "Add To Your Web Page." A design page will open. Here you can customize the gadget. Enter a title for the gadget and values for width and height; the settings determine the dimensions of the gadget. Click one of the border color buttons to set the gadget's border color.

    Review your settings and click "Preview Changes" to see a preview of how the gadget will look on your web page.

    Click "Get The Code" and copy the HTML code that appears in the code box.

    Open your web page's HTML file and paste the code into the location where you want the gadget to appear. Save the file and open it in your Browser to test the Google gadget.
