Building an online storefront is a logical step toward expanding your business and your client base. Many types of online shopping cart systems are available. Miva Merchant is known for its user-friendly, intuitive interface. If you've never set up an online storefront, it can seem intimidating. But getting started with the basics of Miva Merchant 5.5 store setup is a relatively straightforward task.

Choose a store name. You can enter the name of the store in the Admin panel by clicking on "Edit Store" and then typing in the name. This is also where you can enter your store code, which should coordinate with your product and category codes, and the name of the store manager, or main user.
2Install your template. If you've purchased a Miva Merchant storefront template, install it on your site. Click on "Edit Store" and then on the "Frameworks" tab in the menu to upload your template's files from your computer. Then click "Select Framework" to apply and install the template.
3Add categories by clicking on the "Categories" link on the menu on the left. Click "Add Category" and type in the name. You can also edit the Category Header, Category Footer, Meta keywords and Meta descriptions for each category.
4Add products by clicking on the "Products" link and then clicking " Add Product." Enter a SKU number for tracking and inventory purposes, the product name, cost, weight and other fields. Select the appropriate category from the categories that you have added from the drop-down menu in the Category field.
5Add shipping and payment settings. Before customers can order products from your site, your shipping and payment settings must be properly configured. You can add this information by clicking on the "Shipping Settings" and "Payment Settings" tabs, respectively, and filling out the appropriate fields.
