The tool is meant to correct common misspellings, but using it to abbreviate words helps you work faster and creates perfectly spelled words. It is very easy to set up and use. Here's how to key in shorthand with Microsoft Word.

Add Abbreviations to Autocorrect

Decide what word or phrase you wish to abbreviate, and choose a two or three letter abbreviation (shorthand) that is easy to remember and associate with the expanded word or phrase.
2Click" Tools" on the Word Menu.
3Click "AutoCorrect Options."
4Type the abbreviation under "Replace."
5Press the "Tab Key."
6Type the properly spelled word or phrase under "With."
7Click "Add."
8Add another abbreviation by returning to Step 4 and start the process over again.
9Press "OK" when finished.

12Type "ss" under "replace."
13Press the "Tab Key."
14Type "Sincerely yours" under "With."
