How to Manage Google Alerts

For many freelance writers concerned with protecting their original web content, they can sign up for Google Alerts to notify them when their work appears on the web. Google Alerts is also a helpful tool to those who wish to monitor breaking news stories or to keep up with the latest celebrity gossip.

Instructions

    1

Sign in to the Google and use the pull-down menu to select "Alerts."

    2

Enter the topic you wish to manage by selecting a relevant keyword. For example, if you would like Google Alerts to alert you whenever your name appears on the web, you would enter "Jane Doe" into the "Search terms" box.

    3

Choose which type of alert you would like to receive. Google Alerts can notify you whenever your name appears in a news story, blog article, web page, video or group. You can also choose "comprehensive," which alerts you in all the previously mentioned instances.

    4

Determine how often you wish to have Google Alerts notify you by choosing "once a day," "as-it-happens" or "once a week." You will need to enter a valid email address in which to receive your Google Alerts.

    5

Manage your Google Alerts at any time by clicking on the "click here to manage your alerts" link. It will take you to a page where you can view and edit your existing Google Alerts.
