Keywords, or meta tags, give a search engine an idea of what your website is about. Adding keywords to your website helps a search engine to retrieve it when a user searches using keywords you add as meta tags. Proper usage of keywords can help yield meaningful hits from engaged users, increase search-engine ranking and help describe your website. WordPress has an "Editor" interface that allows you to change the headers of your website to include keywords.
Instructions
- 1
Log into your WordPress website. Find the "Appearance" tab and click "Editor." Click the "Header" template to the right of the "Editor" screen.
2Find the "Title" tags in your WordPress code. Add keywords after the "" tag.
3Add this code after your website title: "
4Choose keywords that describe your website and add it to the code. For example, a website that sells shoes should include keywords like "mens shoes, womens shoes, discount shoes, or list brands you sell." Keep in mind what a typical user would type into a search engine -- most users do not add punctuation when typing a query into a search engine.
